Small Wonders: Fun with Miniature Horses at CATRA - Adventure Awaits

Adventure Awaits! Join us for a fun miniature horse adventure at CATRA (Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association) in Grantville, where you'll enjoy a hands-on experience with miniature horses!

This miniature horse experience is open to children, teens, and adults. A participating adult must accompany children aged 5-13 years. You and your child will share the care of one miniature horse and will pay for one participant.

Adults, seniors, and teens age 14 and older can participate alone with their own miniature horse. 

Please be sure to select the correct category description when registering. 

During this hour-long program, you'll learn a variety of skills:

  • Care and Grooming
  • Use of halter and lead
  • Leading Skills
  • Safety

What to know before you go:

  • Dress for the weather - long pants or shorts are fine.
  • You will come in contact with dust, dirt, animal dander, and other things common to a farm - you will get dirty. 
  • If you have allergies, please bring your medication 
  • Closed-toe shoes are required. Boots, hard-soled shoes, and sneakers are all fine. No open-toed shoes or sandals.
  • You may want to bring along a bottle of water
  • There is a porta-potty style restroom facility on site
  • Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the program time
  • Plan extra time before or after the program to explore the farm! See the fairy garden, the garden maze, and lots of other animals
  • The program takes place indoors and is rain or shine

Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required. All participants must sign a liability waiver with CATRA to participate in this program.

Horses and humans have a unique connection and can help individuals to develop problem solving skills, improve decision making skills, work as a team, communicate more clearly, develop leadership skills, trust self and others, discover strengths, handle frustration and anger, focus on goals, build self-esteem, enforce boundaries and find your authentic-self.

When entering, please proceed past the first barn and further back the driveway to the back barns. There is parking in this area closer to the riding location. 

About Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA):
Since 1985, CATRA has offered an opportunity for Capital Area residents from all generations with all types of special and typical needs to establish an atmosphere of support, respect, and health. Their mission is to provide quality equine and animal-assisted therapeutic programs to the people of the Capital area. CATRA's vision is to be a center of excellence where equines and other animals enrich the lives of people of all abilities to enhance physical, spiritual, intellectual, mental, emotional, and social well-being through a holistic approach. 
 

This program is non-refundable. If you register and are unable to attend, you can substitute the name of a friend or family member to attend in your place. However, that person will need to complete the required waiver to participate.

By registering for this program, you accept the terms of the Dauphin County Waiver of Liability for yourself and for any children under 18 years of age attending the program.

Restrictions

Participants must be at least 5 years of age.

Children Age 5-13 years must have a parent or other responsible adult participating in the program paired with them.

Children 14 - 18 years of age can participate in the program on their own; however, they must have a responsible adult onsite during the program.
