Par Rx - Walk and Talk with a Master Gardener - Five Senses Garden

By Dauphin County Parks & Recreation (other events)

2 Dates Through Aug 27, 2024

ABOUT ABOUT

Join Penn State Master Gardeners for a leisurely one-hour walk to learn about some of the many perennials, shrubs, and trees in the Park. Gather inspiration for your garden and gain unique information about this local Park, by learning to identify these plants, some of their pollinators, other insects or diseases, and soil or location preferences. Plants also have 'secrets' and we'll share some of them, such as being deer repellant, toxic or invasive. We are trained horticulturists and are eager to share our knowledge with you.

Feel free to provide a lawn chair for the discussions after our walk.  As gardeners, you may want to share some of your experiences with us at our Q-and-A period, during this time. You are encouraged to extend your experience at the Park, by taking a stroll through the woods and fields that surround the area of our walk.  Whether you are a serious gardener or outdoor enthusiast, you will find this Park to be a great place for a walk, get some fresh air, and relax!

About the Garden

A one-of-a-kind sensory experience started on the Capital Area Greenbelt in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1996 … The Five Senses Gardens has held its ground (and flowers and wildlife) despite torrential floods and environmental adversity, with help from volunteers and the skillful hands of its groundskeepers. Like the butterflies drawn to the variety of plants in each of the gardens, visitors flock to The Gardens to experience the natural sensations, carefully cultivated to challenge the five senses. The miracle of nature fosters a sense of peace and tranquility that has led to therapeutic relief and wonderment for all ages. This program is for all ages, but children should be accompanied by an adult chaperone. More details are available here: http://caga.org/the-trail/garden/
